The Second Continental Congress appoints “The Committee of Five”, to draft a Declaration of Independence; freeing the Thirteen Colonies, from the tyranny, of the British Empire.
The Committee of Five (Adams, Sherman, Livingston, Jefferson, Sherman) handing the Declaration of Independence, to a seated John Hancock. Painting by John Turnbull.
The Committee, consisted of John Adams from Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin from Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Robert R. Livingston of New York and Roger Sherman of Connecticut. Brilliant men, whose words ring true, in 2015; as they did during the days, of the formation, of our country.
