America Recycles

Today, November 15th, is America Recycles Day.

Yep, I recycle.  It’s not as easy, at our new house, as  I no longer have the luxury of just dragging the stuff to the curb. I have to take it to a recycling center.  Luckily, there are numerous places in our community that accept just about anything and everything you could think to recycle. But, I have to actually leave the house to do so, lol.

I stopped recycling, for a couple of months, when it was unbearable to enter the garage, due to the heat and the billions of crickets that had taken up residency.  But, I felt so guilty every time I threw out a can or a plastic container, that I started up, again.  The worst part, of any recycling I have ever done, is storing the stuff until it’s time to take it away.  Our old town used to supply giant, thick, plastic bags (made of recycled plastic) for free, to anyone who wanted to participate in their program.  Now, I’m using plastic trash bags, new ones, at that, to store my recycling.  I don’t like doing so because it seems counterproductive to use new plastic bags for recycling purposes.

I thought about purchasing these bins.  They would fit in the garage and of course, they are reusable. My only concern is transporting them to the recycling center.  I’m just not sure all 3 will fit in the trunk of my car, at the same time. They are nice and big (18″w x 24″d x 17″h),  so I will have to hit up Beloved and the use of his Aggiemobile, for assistance.  And since my Beloved is home early today, maybe I can convince him to haul me to the store so I can start using these right away!

This is the famous “Big Blue Marble” picture.  It was taken on 7 December 1972, by Apollo 17 astronauts, as they traveled to the moon on the last of the Apollo missions.   The beauty of our plant is as awe inspiring today, as it was 40 years ago.  Hopefully, it will inspire us all, to take the best care of home, that we possibly can.  For recycling ideas and recycling centers near you, please visit

Recycling is good. Not using so much material/energy in the first place is even better.

Totally agree! I’m trying so hard to reuse things or at least be smarter about what I buy.

Yes. I must admit I get a little crazy about conserving water and paper, but it really isn’t so hard to imagine that the rich nations, the gas guzzling countries could easily save 20 to 30% with no sweat.

Oh, the twisted thoughts that spin round my head. Please share yours!
